Kano govt bans queen primer other text books for improper contents

The Kano state government has banned the use of some textbooks across Nursery, Primary, and secondary schools in the state, due to harmful and improper explicit contents.

This was contained in a statement signed by the director of planning Research and Statistics office of the Special Adviser on Private and Voluntary Institutions in Kano, Hamisu Ibrahim and made available to Radio Nigeria in Kano.

According to him,the under-listed textbooks are prohibited for use in all Nursery Primary and Secondary Schools across the state.

“The Kano state government wishes to notify operators of both private and voluntary schools in the state that the under-listed textbooks are prohibited for instruction, use in all Nursery Primary and Secondary Schools in the state, due to observed inclusion of inappropriate and sexually explicit content that is harmful to the morale of young students”

The books include The Queen Premier(All Editions) a royal school series published by Nelson Publisher company.

Others are, Basic Science for Junior Secondary School by Razat Publishers 2018 edition for Jss3.

Active Basic Science 2014 edition by Tola Anjorin, Okochuku Okolo, Philias Yara, Bamidele Mutiu, Farima Kaki, Lydia Gbagu.

Basic Science and technology for junior secondary school 1, 2, and 3 by W.K Hamzat, S. Bakare.

New concept English for junior secondary school for jss2(revised edition 2018) by J Eyisi, A Adekunle, T Adepolu, F Ademola Adeoye, Q Adams, and J Eto.

Basic Social Studies for Primary School by J Obebe, D M Muhammad A N Nwosu, J A Adeyanju, and H Gabin.

The statement pointed out that, it is the government’s responsibility to provide quality education while nurturing various characteristics among students.

UNICEF, Kano Govt collaborate to enhance basic education

Kano State Government and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) have partnered to improve access to quality education in the state.

Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf, in his remarks at the event held on Monday at the Government House, Kano, commended UNICEF and other development partners for their continued support to the state’s education sector.

He noted that their contributions were instrumental to improving the future of children in the state.

Speaking at the event, Mr Michael Banda, Officer-in-Charge, UNICEF Field Office in Kano, described education as a fundamental right that should be accessible to all.

Banda, who handed over learning and instructional materials to the state government, said the items symbolised hope and a brighter future for children in Kano.

“The books, computers, and electronic gadgets represent more than just tools; they symbolise opportunity and a brighter future for all children in Kano State,” he said.

He urged teachers to use the materials to promote creativity, critical thinking, and a love for learning among pupils.

Banda also encouraged pupils to make good use of the items to better their future and appealed to the state government to prioritise regular replenishment of learning materials.

“Books and electronic gadgets are perishables and require deliberate planning for periodic replenishment,” he said.

“Every year, we must be deliberate in our planning, budgeting, and procurement so we don’t fall behind and compromise the quality of learning outcomes,” he added.

The UNICEF-Kano Government partnership aims to promote inclusive education and improve learning outcomes across the state.

Dangote Unveils N15bn Five-Year Development Plan for Kano Varsity

Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has unveiled a N15 billion five-year development plan for the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTech), Wudil, a Kano State-owned institution.

Dangote made the announcement during the 5th combined convocation ceremony of the university in Kano, stating that the plan would be executed through the Dangote Foundation.

He said the plan would cover several projects, including the design and construction of male and female hostels, a world-class multipurpose computer laboratory with 24-hour internet service, and a mini solar power plant to provide constant electricity to the university.

Also included are the construction of a befitting Senate building and a post-NYSC enrolment programme for the best engineering students.

Dangote pledged to offer employment opportunities to outstanding engineering graduates of the university in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Dangote Cement.

“Majority of you who have performed excellently, I will also guarantee employment. The execution of this development plan will be carried out in close partnership with the Governing Council, with a proper project management structure to ensure execution on budget and schedule,” he said.

He added that he would brief Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, twice a year on the progress of the projects to ensure proper implementation.

Dangote, who was also invested as the Chancellor of the university, promised to support the institution to become one of the top three universities in Nigeria.

He urged wealthy individuals to support government efforts in addressing the issue of out-of-school children.

“Government cannot do it alone. The public must contribute to the development of our country,” he said.

He commended Governor Yusuf for declaring a state of emergency in the education sector and prioritising the enrolment of out-of-school children.

Meanwhile, Governor Yusuf, who is the Visitor to the university, announced the approval of road and drainage projects within the institution and reaffirmed his administration’s continued support.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Musa Yakasai, disclosed that the governor had approved N2.1 billion to settle the university’s outstanding liabilities.

He also revealed that Dangote had paid electricity bills amounting to millions.

Peter Igho lauds Danfodio Varsity FM Radio at One

Former Executive Director Programmes Nigerian Television Authority and one time Director General National Lottery Regulatory Commission Chief Peter Igho has commended the students, management and staff of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto Campus Radio on the occasion of its one year anniversary of successful excellent transmission which was marked last weekend.

This is contained in a statement issued by Dr Danladi Bako, OON Senior Lecturer Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto in Kano on Friday .

Igho was is also DanJikan Kabi hailed the Head of Department Mass Communication , staff and students of the department for the tenacity and doggedness in getting the FM station on air within the short period of the existence of the department of Mass Communication.

The former Creator and Producer of NTA’s famous drama series “Cock crow at dawn” who was also pioneer Controller Programmes Nigerian Television Authority Sokoto in the seventies could not hide his excitement at the level of creative programmes transmitted daily on the station.

One of the Senior Lecturers at the department and former staff of NTA Sokoto Dr Danladi Bako had earlier briefed Chief Peter Igho that the Mass Communication department of Usmanu Danfodiyo University which is just five years in existence was now teaching courses like Television production and Film studies along with Radio broadcasting.

This drew further commendation from Olorogun Peter Igho”I am very excited about this , and I express my sincere congratulations to the Vice Chancellor Professor Bashir Garba MFR , Dean Faculty of Social Science and Head of Department Dr Mijinyawa as well as the staff and students of Mass Communication department for this giant stride”.

Peter Igho stated that he hopes one day graduates of film studies from the department will be able to shoot iconic historical movies that are based on the teachings and lives of the founding fathers of the Sokoto Caliphate in order to preserve the culture and tradition as well as internationalise the rich knowledge of the people.
