NPFL: Enugu Rangers poised to win eighth title

Rangers will look to win their eighth Nigeria Premier Football League title when they take on Bendel Insurance at ‘The Cathedral’ Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, Enugu on Sunday.

To achieve the feat, the Enugu based side must beat the Benin Arsenals and hope their rivals Remo Stars and Enyimba drop points in their respective games.

Remo Stars, who occupy second position on the table, will log horns with Sunshine Stars in Akure.

Ademola Lookman Named CAF Men’s Player of the Year 2024

Ademola Lookman has been named the 2024 African Footballer of the Year, solidifying his position among the world’s top players this year.

 

The Super Eagles forward triumphed over competition from South Africa’s Ronwen Williams, Côte d’Ivoire’s Simon Adingra, Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, and Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy to claim the prestigious award.

 

Lookman’s victory ensures the CAF Men’s Player of the Year award remains in Nigeria, following teammate Victor Osimhen’s win in 2023.

 

The Atalanta forward, who received the accolade in Marrakech, Morocco on Monday night, described the achievement as “incredible” and expressed being “extremely proud” of the recognition.

The 3rd Brigade Nigerian Army Team (3 Stallion) on Monday emerged as the overall winner of the 2024 Nigerian Navy Logistics College Sports Week in Kano.

The event, which was held at the Nigerian Navy Logistics College in Dawakin-Tofa Local Government featured teams from the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Police, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The competition featured various sports such as football, volleyball, basketball, scrabble, chess, badminton, table tennis, tug-of-war, and track and field athletics.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that at the conclusion of the competition, Three Stallion secured the top spot with an impressive haul of 10 gold, six silver, and four bronze medals.

Speaking at the event, Brig. Gen. Ahmed Tukur, Commander of 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, expressed pride in the athletes’ perseverance, exceptional performance, and dedication.

He assured them of the Brigade’s continued support and presented a token of appreciation in recognition of their achievement.

Tukur also commended other participants for their performance and sportsmanship.

He further lauded the Nigerian Navy for organizing the competition.
