“Presidential Medal of Courage from President Mohammadu Buhari 2016, unprecedented Award for Outstanding Service to the Nation by the National Assembly 2020 amongst hundreds of other awards for excellence too numerous to mention.”

“Kyari is known for his zeel, dedication and commitment to excellence. His record of service and sacrifices in defense of our nation exemplify the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.” The President of Group stated.

Abbas Yakasai lamented that the denial of bail to him for a baseless and fabricated set-up which is completely bailable represents a clear violation .of his fundamental rights and a subversion of constitutional order.

He added that injustice undermines the very fabric of Nigeria as a democratic society and reflects a disturbing trend of personal vendetta, vindictiveness, malice and envy overshadowing the pursuit of justice.

He added that “the so-called charges pressed against DCP Abbe Kyari are beilable in law, yet he remains unjustly incarcerated while hardened criminals and people who looted hundreds of Billions of Naira from Public funds are walking free today.”

The President emphasized that “This disparity in treatment is unacceptable and goes against the principles of faimess and equality enshrined in our constitution.”

According to Mr. Yakasai, Abba Kyari’s strategic initiatives and operational acumen led to the successful apprehension of thousands of notorious criminals, terrorists, kidnappers, and the disruption of their nefarious activities.

“His exceptiorial bravery in the fight against banditry and insurgency significantly bolstered the efforts of law enforcement agericies, restoring hope to the common man by ensuring justice and defense for all Nigerians.”

He pointed out that his continued involvement and leadership in combating crime are vital to safeguarding the lives and properties of citizens and preserving the integrity of our beloved country.

He maintained that it is disheartening to witness the efforts of DCP Abba Kyari being tarrnished by enecues of Nigeria and some groups of highly connected criminal and Terrorists with members both abroad and in Nigeria who have vowed to destroy Nigeria and tareak it into Pieces.

“These groups have been sponsoring hundreds of baseless accusations and concocted lies against the SuperCop since 2021.

“We Nigerians must be careful of these groups who have hundreds of thousands of members across the globe. They don’t like anything or any person that is good for Nigeria.

“We trust in President Tinubu’s wisdom and leadership to consider our appeal in the best interests of our internal security and the well-being of Nigerian citizens.” He further explained.

Tax reform: Coalition of Northern Groups advocates for equitable tax system

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), a youth organisation, has called for a more equitable tax system in Nigeria, urging policymakers to implement reforms that will ensure fairness across all regions.

The group’s Kano State Coordinator, Mr. Sani Yusuf, made the call during a news conference on Friday in Kano.

Yusuf expressed concern that the proposed reforms, if implemented in their current form, would have severe and disproportionate consequences for Kano State, its institutions, and its people.

“Our position is based on key observations that directly impact Kano’s economic, educational, and technological sectors. Immediate attention must be given to these issues,” Yusuf said.

According to him, contentious aspect of the tax reforms is the introduction of a 60 percent derivation formula for VAT revenue allocation.

“In the absence of transparent data justifying this shift, it is unclear how states like Kano, where consumption is high, will be affected by the new system,” Yusuf said.

He further expressed concern about the lack of publicly available data detailing how these changes will impact each state, particularly Kano.

The coalition also urged the government to release this data and provide justification for the fairness of the new formula, especially if it is claimed that non-Lagos states, including Kano, would benefit.

He said that the troubling element of the reforms was the proposed incremental increase in VAT rates, potentially reaching 15 percent by 2030.

“In a country already grappling with high poverty levels and widespread economic hardship, any increase in VAT will only worsen the challenges faced by ordinary Nigerians.

“The coalition strongly opposes these proposed VAT hikes and we called on the government to explore alternative revenue sources that do not further burden the people of Kano and the rest of the country,” the coordinator said.
