Court to Rule on Alleged FG Takeover of Kuyan Ta Inna Lands on April 7, Owners Appeal to Kano Govt to Intervene

Kano State High Court No. 4, presided over by Justice Usman Malam Na’Abba, has fixed April 7, 2025, for a ruling on a motion filed by the owners of Kuyan Ta Inna lands in Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano State.
The applicants’ lawyer, Barr Umar Usman Dan -Baito, disclosed this while speaking to newsmen at the court premises.
Dan -Baito explained that the applicants have sued the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, the Ministry of Transport, and the Nigerian Army over the alleged forceful takeover of their land for the construction of a railway, claiming due process was not followed.
The applicants, numbering 76, argue that their lands are being taken without due process.
They claim that the law grants every Nigerian the right to own both movable and immovable property, and it prohibits any forceful takeover without following proper legal procedures, which include negotiating with the landowner or providing adequate compensation.
Barrister Umar Usman Dan Baito, counsel for the applicants, said that the Nigerian Army’s legal representatives have appeared in court, as the applicants allege the Army is being used to coerce them into surrendering their properties.
Dan Baito noted that the court had previously issued an interim order on the matter and has now set a date for a ruling.
He expressed confidence that the court will deliver a just decision, emphasizing that no one can be deprived of their land without proper legal recourse.
In response, Godwin Akwopfueze, the lawyer representing the Nigerian Army (the sixth respondent), stated that they are seeking a favorable ruling, asserting that they are not involved in the matter and that the applicants have never been invited to the barracks.
Isa Jibrin Isa Kaci Kasa, chairman of the landowners’ association, condemned the alleged intimidation tactics, including offering a meager sum of 600,000 Naira for land valued at over 3 million Naira.
He called on Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf and Emir Muhammad Sanusi II to intervene, claiming the federal government is attempting to seize the lands without the knowledge or consent of the state government.
Kaci Kasa also pointed out that many of the landowners are orphans and are at risk of losing their properties, which is why they have turned to the court to seek justice.

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has commenced a new phase with the inauguration of Hon. Yahuza Ado as Chairman of its Governing Council, a development expected to strengthen quality assurance, consumer protection and industrial competitiveness in the country.
The inauguration was performed in Abuja by the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, alongside the Minister of State, Sen. John Enoh.
Oduwole said the Federal Government remained committed to creating an enabling environment for trade and investment to drive sustainable economic growth.
She urged Ado to justify the confidence reposed in him by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that effective standards administration was critical to industrial development and global competitiveness.
Speaking after taking the oath of office, Inuwa expressed appreciation to Tinubu for the appointment, pledging total commitment to the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He said his leadership would prioritise close collaboration with the supervising ministry and SON management to deepen industrial growth and promote Made-in-Nigeria products.
Ado stressed the importance of standards in national development, noting that effective regulation safeguards lives, boosts consumer confidence and enhances the competitiveness of Nigerian products in global markets.
“Standards are the silent architects of trust. They protect lives, ensure quality, drive industrialisation, open doors to international trade and build national pride,” he said.
The new chairman assured SON staff of improved welfare and motivation, stressing that a productive workforce was vital to the organisation’s mandate.
He also pledged support for modernisation initiatives, digital transformation and stronger enforcement of standards nationwide.
Kano residents say the inauguration signals renewed momentum at SON, with expectations of stronger stakeholder engagement, alignment with international best practices and policies aimed at expanding Nigeria’s export base in line with broader economic recovery efforts.

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Rep. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, says the Federal Government has committed over N12 billion to a solar power project at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH).

Speaking at the flag-off of the project in Kano, Bichi, who represents Bichi Federal Constituency, said the initiative would make the hospital independent of the national grid.

He explained that the project is part of the government’s plan to solarise all tertiary institutions and teaching hospitals across the country, beginning with AKTH.

According to him, the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthen healthcare infrastructure.

“The Federal Government set aside N300 billion in the 2025 appropriation act, and very soon all our tertiary institutions and teaching hospitals, including those owned by states, will enjoy 24-hour solar power.

“This year alone, I have attracted projects worth over N26 billion to AKTH, which has never happened in its history,” he said.

Bichi added that similar projects were underway at Bayero University Kano, Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology Wudil, and Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital.

He also commended Tinubu for supporting the project, describing it as a milestone in healthcare service delivery.

In his remarks, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Chief Uche Nnaji, said the initiative marked the translation of the Renewed Hope Agenda from vision to tangible action.

On his part, the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), Dr Mustapha Abdullahi, assured that the project would be delivered before December.

“This is the first of its kind in Nigeria. We are targeting about 10,000 projects across the 36 states and the FCT to ensure 100 per cent solarisation of facilities,” Abdullahi said.

The Chief Medical Director of AKTH, Prof. Abdulrahman Sheshe, said the hospital spends about N150 million monthly on electricity bills and an additional N30 million on diesel.

“With this intervention, the hospital will save more than 30 per cent of its expenses. This project could not have come at a better time, especially after the recent power dispute we had,” he said.

Before the flag-off, Bichi inspected the ongoing construction of a five-storey Accident, Emergency and Trauma Centre at the hospital, another project facilitated by the Federal Government.
