The Kano State House of Assembly on Tuesday screened and confirmed two commissioner-nominees forwarded to it by Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf.

The nominees are Dr Aliyu Isa Aliyu, the Statistician-General and Director-General of the Kano State Bureau of Statistics, and Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude (SAN), a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

Their confirmation followed the governor’s submission of the nominees’ list to the Assembly on Sept. 29.

During plenary, the Majority Leader, Lawan Hussaini (NNPP–Dala), moved the motion for their confirmation, which was seconded by Abdulhamid Abdul (NNPP–Minjibir).

The lawmakers unanimously adopted the motion through a voice vote.

The Speaker, Ismail Falgore (NNPP–Rogo), thereafter announced the confirmation of the nominees and directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the resolution to the governor for further action.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after their screening, the nominees expressed appreciation to Governor Yusuf for finding them worthy of the appointments, and to the legislators for the rigorous but fair screening exercise.

They pledged to justify the confidence reposed in them by contributing their quota towards the development of the state and supporting the administration’s reform agenda.

They also assured that, if eventually assigned portfolios, they would bring their wealth of experience to bear in the discharge of their duties.

NAN reports that with their confirmation, the two nominees are expected to join the state executive council to strengthen governance and service delivery.

APC Kano Disowns Groups Backing CP’s Sacking

By Ahmed Mohammad Kano

Kano, The Kano State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, has disowned 12 groups that backed the potential sacking of Police Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori over his withdrawal from the 65th Independence Anniversary parade.

Abbas said the groups are not members of the party, adding that their claims about the commissioner’s actions are baseless.

Abbas said that 12 APC groups that backed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s call for the removal of Police Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori are not members of the party.

Abbas said the APC supports the commissioner’s decision to withdraw from the 65th Independence Anniversary parade, citing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for a low-key celebration.

He questioned why the governor chose to go ahead with the celebration despite the president’s directive and called for sanctions against other security agencies that participated in the event.
