Kaduna State Governor, Sen. Uba Sani has made an important announcement regarding the release of the over 200 Kuriga school children who were kidnapped by suspected bandits.

The Governor’s announcement came late Saturday night, confirming the liberation of the school children.

“With utmost gratitude, I am pleased to announce that the children from our Kuriga school have been safely released”, he stated.

“Our special appreciation goes to our dear President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for prioritizing the safety and security of Nigerians and particularly ensuring that the abducted Kuriga school children are released unharmed.

“While the school children were in captivity, I spoke with Mr. President several times. He empathized with us, provided solace, and tirelessly collaborated with us to ensure the children’s safe return.

“Special mention must also be made of our dear brother, the National Security Adviser, Mal. Nuhu Ribadu for his exemplary leadership. I spent countless nights working closely with Mal. Ribadu, refining strategies and coordinating the efforts of the security agencies, which ultimately led to this positive outcome.

“The Nigerian Army also deserves special commendation for showing that with courage, determination and commitment, criminal elements can be degraded and security restored in our communities.

”We also thank all Nigerians who prayed fervently for the safe return of the school children. Today is truly a cause for celebration. We give Almighty Allah all the glory.“

BREAKING: Appeal Court Sacks Kano Gov

By Admin

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has sacked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State.

The panel upheld the verdict of the tribunal led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadebay which sacked Yusuf on September 20, 2023.

The lower court had declared 165,663 votes of Yusuf, who contested under the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), invalid on the grounds that they were not signed or stamped by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The governor’s votes were then reduced to 853,939 while those of Nasir Ganuwa, his All Progressives Congress (APC) rival, remained at 890,705.

Yusuf had rejected the tribunal verdict, which he described as “unfair” and “a miscarriage of justice”, and headed to the appeal court.

The lower court had declared 165,663 votes of Yusuf, who contested under the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), invalid on the grounds that they were not signed or stamped by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Yusuf had rejected the tribunal verdict, which he described as “unfair” and “a miscarriage of justice”, and headed to the appeal court.

At the court, Wole Olanipekun, SAN, lead for Yusuf, asked that the judgement of the tribunal be set aside.

Kicking against the ruling on ballot papers, the senior lawyer said that was the first time in the history that a tribunal would annul an election over non-signing of the back of ballot papers.

He had said the tribunal erred, arguing further that, that was the first time that a political party would file a matter without joining its candidate as a party in the petition and the candidate would declared winner of the polls.

But Akin Olujimi SAN, counsel for APC, countered him saying the Appeal Court stated emphatically that the non-signing of ballots amounted to electoral malpractice.

Alleged N4b Fraud: Court Arraigns, Remands Ex-KASCO MD, 2 Others

The Kano State Government on Thursday arraigned a former Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the state’s Agricultural Supply Company, (KASCO), Bala Muhammad Inuwa, his son, Bala Muhammad Inuwa junior and an Incorporated Trustees of Association of Compassionate Friends over N4 billion alleged fraud.

It could be recalled that the office of the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, filed the charges against them, sequel to investigations by the Kano State Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).

The commission disclosed that its investigations revealed that the defendants diverted over N4 billion from the account of the state’s agricultural supply company into personal accounts.

This paper reports that the arraignment was sequel to the ruling of Justice Hafsat Sani Yahaya of a Kano High Court on Thursday.

The defendants Counsel, Prof. Nasir Adamu Aliyu had argued that the defendants cannot be arraigned due to the non-availability of some facilities that include the defendants statements, and list of witnesses among others, saying that without the facilities it would amount to hindrance of the defendants’ constitutional rights to fair hearing in line with Kano State Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2019.

However, the judge ruled that it is not enough ground not to take the plea of the defendants and asked that the charges be read to them.

After the ten count charges that include criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, false statement to cover up transaction and mismanagement of grant money among others.

In their pleadings, the defendants said they were not guilty of the charges read to them.

The defence Counsel, Prof. Nasir Adamu Aliyu then made an oral pleading asking the court to allow the defendants continue to enjoy the earlier bail granted them by another high court on the matter.

This, the Complainant Counsel, Barr. Zaharadeen Hamisu Kofar Mata argued that though they are not objecting to the bail it should not be by oral pleading but by proper application before the court.

In her ruling, Justice Hafsat ordered the defence counsel to bring an application for bail which may be taken tomorrow Friday, if the application is ready, and ordered the defendants be remanded.

The judge then adjourned for hearing of the substantive suit to December, 6th, 2023
